In 1984, the Harrington Regional Medical Center at
Amarillo, Inc. (HRMCI) was created to promote the continuing development
of the Medical Center for the physical and economic well-being of the
nearly one-million residents of the region who seek us out annually for
health care, training, work, and a myriad of other reasons.
In addition to serving as caretaker of the Medical
Center land, HRMCI helps to establish and support programs and facilities
for patient care, research and education.
The result of HRMCI's efforts has been the formation of
an alliance that now includes 27 facilities and agencies, located both
within and outside of the Medical Center campus. These institutions are
individually motivated yet jointly committed to providing quality,
accessible health care for the region.
- To promote, provide for and to assist in the establishment, support,
and maintenance of programs and facilities that pertain to patient care,
patient services, research and education.

- To create opportunities to uncover new knowledge and new schools of
thought. From these discoveries come unlimited applications (some of which
we cannot imagine even today) for cost-effective patient care, unique
interaction in research between medical and agricultural investigators and
education for health care professionals.
- To strengthen collaborations by creating and assisting in institutional
development. To bring together basic biological, chemical and physical
sciences with the clinical sciences and medical care.
- To stimulate new research collaborations by assisting in recruiting
talented professionals and support personnel who can work together for more
than one institution.
- To provide a forum for exchanging ideas between the agricultural and
research communities.
- To assist in technology transfer: from the laboratory bench, to the
bedside, to the marketplace. With this, the science of medicine moves
forward.
