Amarillo College Center for Continuing Healthcare Education
[Picture of Facility] The Amarillo College Center for Continuing Health Care Education is located on the West Campus of Amarillo College. Since its formation in February 1989, the Center has conducted a wide range of programs, conferences and courses for health care professionals. The Center utilizes a faculty and guest faculty that includes local, national and internationally recognized speakers. Programs are developed, customized and selected according to a periodic health care education needs survey of healthcare professionals.

The Center utilizes a designated planning committee represented by the following institutions:

  • Amarillo College
  • Baptist / St. Anthony's Health Care System
  • Northwest Texas Healthcare System
  • Veterans Affairs Medical Center
In addition, liaison representatives from area agencies and institutions are selected for specific programs.

Amarillo College Division of Allied Health
[Picture of Facility] At Amarillo College, "allied health" refers to those personnel and professionals who fulfill supporting roles in the health care delivery system, including assisting the work of physicians, dentists, and other health care specialists. Presently, the division offers thirteen educational programs ranging in length from one semester to twenty-four months. Graduates earn a "Certificate of Completion" or an "Associate of Applied Science degree" upon achievement of all academic and clinical course requirements.

  • Medical Laboratory Technologist

Amarillo College Nursing Division
[Nurse with Patient] The Nursing Division of Amarillo College offers curriculum leading to rewarding careers in the highly valued and respected area of nursing - RN's and LVN's. This program of study qualifies students to take their examinations for state licensure. Courses at Amarillo College provide both classroom theory and clinical experiences. Students are encouraged to achieve their educational goals in a supportive learning environment - from the classroom to a state-of-the-art Nursing Resource Center, computer-assisted learning labs and a computer testing center. Our nursing students have exciting opportunities to learn and practice in a variety of clinical settings such as: acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, ambulatory care centers, rehabilitation centers and home health care agencies. Our dedicated nursing faculty are well-qualified to educate students to be knowledgeable and skilled in providing quality nursing care.
  • Vocational Nursing Program - This is a one-year state accredited certificate program. These graduates are prepared to practice at the level of an LVN in a variety of health care settings. The LVN program provides a foundation for those graduates wishing to pursue an associate degree in nursing.

  • Associate Degree Nursing Program - This program offers a flexible two and one-half year curriculum that prepares graduates to practice at the level of an RN (Registered Nurse). The ADN program is accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN) and the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
