A regional center, the Amarillo Speech, Hearing and Language Center
was established in 1959 to meet all needs of people with communicaton
disorders and hearing impairments. The Center offers comprehensive and
specialized methodology and technology in diagnostic and therapeutic
services in speech/language pathology and audiology. The staff includes
certified and licensed speech language pathologists and audiologists.
The Panhandle Council for the Deaf provides BEI certified interpreters
for clients with hearing impairments. The Council also provides an equipment
demonstration room, information and referral services, advocacy, and
a pre-school literacy program for children with hearing problems.
