A
total of 1,075,167 patient/client visits were recorded for HRMC member institutions
in 1999, resulting in total income of $1,294.51 billion. This figure represents
an astounding increase of 79.3% over the previous year. This sizable increase
can be attributed to economic growth and expansion of Medical Center facilities
and services. (see chart to right)
Total spending for HRMC institutions was $476.63 million, an increase of 32.13% over 1998. The total spending category is an aggregate measure of economic activity, consisting of the total of three categories: (1) the value of new construction and renovation, (2) total salaries, and (3) the total spent on goods and services. These three categories have a direct impact on the Amarillo economy. In 1999, HRMC institutions increased spending in the local community by more than $115.9 million.
